Two words you guys… Sticky. Buns… I mean honestly need I say more?
Here’s the deal – If you made me choose what my all time favourite baked good is – impossible as that decision would be to make – I would probably tell you it’s sticky buns. I love sticky buns, like a freaking LOOOVVVEEE sticky buns. Everything from the pillowy soft dough, to the cinnamon filling, to the sticky caramel glaze, and if you throw some pecans in there… game over baby, I will probably swallow it whole.
Yes, they are a complete mess to eat, (that is, if you are an animal like me and eat with your hands), and by the time I’m through attacking a sticky bun, I’m usually covered in sweet, sticky, caramelly goodness…. but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I feel like I should get personal for a minute here, and share a secret about myself… I love cookies. Okay, so this is not really a secret if you follow me on instagram and see how often I bake cookies…but it’s a serious love. Like the ridiculous, all consuming, inconvenient love of great love stories. Guys, I really love cookies.
If you asked me what my favourite cookie is, I probably wouldn’t be able to give you an answer. I love all the different kinds of cookies for different reasons, so making a definitive decision on which flavour is my favourite seems like an impossible task.
That being said – whenever I check out a new bakery, if they have oatmeal cookies on the menu, I can guarantee you that I will be buying one (okay most likely two) of those oatmeal bad boys – that is, in addition to probably about ten other items…
Oatmeal cookies are the bomb; and these oatmeal cookies are the frigen best! Okay that was a really bold statement – maybe they aren’t “the best,” but they are effing delicious. Like eat half the cookie dough, and the whole tray of baked cookies good. And if you don’t believe me, you should probably make a batch right now… like right now. I mean it. You need these cookies in your life.
Whenever I have a hankering for cookies, there is a question that plagues me… And that question is; should I bake classic chocolate chip or double chocolate chip cookies??? Raise your hand if you too have ever been plagued by this decision? What can I say, sometimes a girl just can’t choose…
So when I can’t choose… I don’t – I marble.
I strongly believe that life is just better with chocolate cake…
Even if you are having on of those hellish days that doesn’t even seem like it could be real; I firmly believe that a good chocolate cake has the power to turn even the worst of days around. Because at the end of the day, there really is nothing like slicing into a moist chocolate cake en-robed in silky, fudgey frosting.
Such are the moments that I daydream about…
You guys… these Pecan Clusters have been a looonnngggg time coming.
I swear I have been wanting to try and make a homemade version of these bad boys for the past two months. I bought all of the ingredients, I wrote out a practice recipe, and yet they still somehow didn’t happen until just yesterday. Every Monday for the past 8 weeks I would tell myself… “this will be the week I make the pecan clusters…” and then week after week I would amaze myself with my skills in procrastination.
Holy smokes it’s December guys… can you believe it!? I swear just yesterday it was October and now here we are approaching mid-December, and it feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been around these parts to share a recipe with you lovely people.
Of course it most likely feels like “forever”, because it has been a long time since I shared a recipe with you guys. It’s been one of those months where I just bake everything on a whim, without writing anything down, all the while thinking to myself “yes of course I will remember this recipe…” And then being sadly disappointed when my memory fails me two weeks later. Note to self: MUST WRITE ALL RECIPES DOWN AS I MAKE THEM.
Have you ever had sweet potato pie? Sometimes when I mention sweet potato pie to people they look at me like I’m some sort of crazy person and say things like “sweet potato in a dessert!?” To that all I have to say is; Hell YES sweet potato in a dessert!
But I also have to clarify that when I say “sweet potato” what I really mean is yam. Because when you go to a typical grocery store yams are labelled as the ones with an orange interior (and this is what you want for this recipe), while sweet potatoes have a white interiors (not what you want for this recipe.)
I’m not sure why we as a culture decided to collectively confuse ourselves by swapping the names around when it comes to things like “sweet potato fries” or “sweet potato casserole” or “sweet potato pie” But let’s be honest saying “Yam Pie”just doesn’t have the same effect… amiright?
A few weeks ago I posted a recipe for this Carrot Cake Loaf and so many of you sent me pictures telling how much you enjoyed it, which always makes my day when you guys do that <3 <3 <3
In particular one of my idols on instagram @jspiesy sent photos of her delicious take on my recipe which included a cream cheese filling and a nutty oat streusel on top… Can you say YUM!?
Seriously though upon looking at her photo I was pretty much foaming at the mouth…
Few things get me more excited than when I walk into a new bakery only to discover that among their line up of gorgeous baked goods, they have giant, chewy ginger cookies for sale.
That probably sounds a bit strange to a few of you – that I could get so excited over something as simple as a ginger cookie; But if there is one thing that I simply cannot resist in life, it’s a good ginger cookie. No matter what the circumstance, if I sniff out a good ginger cookie in my travels, you better bet that I will be buying one – okay let’s be real, I will most likely be buying two or three. I will never pass up a good, crackly ginger cookie. Who’s with me on this?
Okay so I might be a little late to the Fall party this year, (considering last week was the first official day of Fall) but hey, better late than never right?
Besides, it was well worth being a little late because I celebrated these first few days of Fall by doing a collaboration on a Fall Apple Harvest inspired photo shoot with my friend Rosemary Lebarge , Paper and Parties, and Carly Fairbank.
We staged a little party in the park, and by the time it was all set up, I couldn’t help but want to be a guest at our Apple Harvest Party.
