Skillet Cinnamon Buns with Cream Cheese Frosting

IMG_1493

I have one question for you today – is there anything better than homemade cinnamon buns? Honestly, I haven’t made a batch of cinnamon buns in a long time, {pure craziness I know}, but his past Saturday I had such a craving for them, I had absolutely no choice but to make a fresh batch.

Now I have always had a little bit of a thing for cinnamon buns – and by a little thing I mean I’m basically addicted to them {you can read all about my cinnamon bun addiction in my previous post for Dark Chocolate Espresso Cinnamon Buns}.

However; I guess because it had been so long since I had actually made & eaten a batch of classic cinnamon buns, I forgot just how incredibly special they are, and I just can’t help but think that they really are the best thing to bake for a weekend breakfast in all of the land.

As a kid I kind of had a thing for cinnamon buns… and when I tell you that I had “a thing” for cinnamon buns, that’s basically just a nice way for me to say that I was something of a crazed cinnamon bun addicted child; a lover of soft fluffy yeast dough; a fiend for things smothered in cream cheese frosting! You get the gist… I was hopelessly devoted to the cinnamon bun stuff.

My mum would take me to the store to pick up groceries – and by groceries I mean ingredients like broccoli and wheat bran; Healthy foods that didn’t include things like store bought cinnamon buns. But it was okay, because I would strategically join her on these field trips to the grocery store for this very reason – to convince her that cinnamon buns were a necessary addition to our weekly grocery haul.

Upon entry into the store, I would separate from my mother {who was probably headed for the aisle with said wheat bran} and I would make a B-line straight for the bakery department –  I knew she would have no choice but to follow me. I was still a child after all, and as such I was not to be left to wander in the supermarket aisles unattended.

I may have been a crazed cinnamon bun addict, but I knew how the world worked…

Cranberry & Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buns

Happy Wednesday {or hump day, whichever you prefer} lovelies! How is everybody? I hope your New Year is off to a wonderful start <3

So I’m just going to call a spade a spade and admit that I have gotten a little cranberry happy on the blog lately what with all the cranberry posts. So I apologize to all of you who follow along and are not necessarily cranberry fans, but I can’t help it – I’m an absolute fool for cranberries.

Fresh cranberries, dried cranberries, cooked cranberries, raw cranberries – I am of the opinion that cranberries are incredibly amazing in all of their forms. Who else can relate to my cranberry addiction? Great – let’s be friends and get reallll cranberry happy with these Cranberry & Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buns…

So here’s the thing – before I came up with this recipe, classic cinnamon buns were pretty much one of my favourite breakfast foods of all time. The simplicity a cinnamony – brown sugar filling that is encased by a soft, fluffy dough, and is topped off with a velvety layer of cream cheese frosting was pretty much my definition of heaven. That is… until I baked these Cranberry & Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buns.

I can’t believe we are just two days away from the official first day of fall! Even though it seems like summer only just began, I can’t help but feel giddy about the change in seasons, so even though it is not technically fall yet, I have completely gone into fall mode.  I have put away all of my summer shorts and t-shirts and welcomed dark wash jeans and chunky sweaters back into my daily wardrobe; Cole and I busted out all of our Fall decor and began decorating the house with rich earthy oranges, reds and yellows to welcome the season; and of course, lest I forget to tell you that I have been baking up all kinds of fall inspired goodies that embody all of the warm spices and seasonal flavours that I love so much about fall.

I just love fall inspired baking and I think most of us can agree that when we think about fall baking, some of the first things that come to mind are baked goodies that  pair together fragrant spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger with seasonal fruits and vegetables like apples, pears and pumpkin. There is just something about the fall season that screams for these flavours, and I am soooo happy to oblige.

Any baked goodies that are laced with cinnamon are probably my favourite things to not only bake but more importantly to gobble up. Yup – anything that is chock full of this incredible spice is pretty much guaranteed to be delicious in my books, so I have wasted no time getting into the fall baking spirit by using cinnamon with reckless abandon this year. I have already had to make a couple emergency trips to the grocery store to replenish my stock of cinnamon at home – no joke – that’s how much I have been baking with it. Feel free to call me the crazy cinnamon lady… I don’t mind.

So I have gotten a little bit obsessed with creating baked goodies that include yeast lately… I don’t really know why. There is just something about mixing up a dough, and after letting it rise coming back to find a puffed up ball of dough that is twice the size of what you started with that just gets me downright giddy. Do you get this? That feeling of pure joy over a ball of yeast dough…?? I’m sure I can’t be the only one who leaps for joy over rising dough… okay may I am- moving on.

Basically I have been going through the yeast in my pantry like it’s going out of style and I have had to make numerous trips to the grocery store to re-stock. So anticipate some more bread and yeast dough themed recipes to be coming soon to a theater near you – because once again, I have a new baking obsession. I know – what else is new right?

My obsession with yeast began a few weeks ago, when I made a batch of Peach Cinnamon Buns for the Haney Farmers Market society to taste test as a possible new addition to our Farmers Market line up. The ladies informed me that they loved them, so I was free to sell whatever cinnamon buns of my choosing at any upcoming markets. So sell them I did…

Morning peeps!

Guess what? It’s Thursday and that can only mean one thing…. it means that tomorrow is Friday and I think that deserves a hell yeah! Can I get a woop woop?!

Clearly I am a little (a lot) excited for the weekend, which isn’t exactly a new experience – I am always excited for the weekend. But this weekend I am extra excited  – mostly because this Saturday we are headed out to Delta to check out the the Deja Vu Vintage Market, which in other words is basically my heaven. I love vintage markets and will definitely be looking to Cole for restraint so as to not let me purchase literally everything I come across that is vintage & kitchen related.

Not to mention after the vintage market we will be heading for Vancouver to have a little browse around the West Elm stores & Pottery Barn… So basically we are just doing a shopping day for ALL THE THINGS that are house & home furniture related. My favourite kind of Saturday 😀 What kind of fun things are you getting up to this weekend?

This is definitely a recipe that you will want to get up out of bed for in the morning! This is the kind of recipe that I gladly get up out of bed at 7am on a Saturday morning to put together for Cole and I’s weekend brunch. Now if the title of this post and the picture above of this amazing bread isn’t enough for you to understand why the hell I would be happily getting out of bed at 7am on a Saturday… please allow me to elaborate.

Alright, first things first, I promise that I am officially done changing up my websites name! I know it’s just ridiculous how I have managed to do this twice in the span of one month, but I have finally settled on a name that I think really fits what my blog is about and also makes me smile! Let me know what you think about the name change 🙂 Now back to today’s blog!

Happy Friday everyone! Yipeee! So basically it has become something of a tradition for me to bring in some sort of baked good to work on Friday mornings. How did this happen you ask? Well basically, about two months ago I started to casually bringing in some leftover treats, which I had lying around at home from various weeknight baking adventures. I finally realized that there is only so much baking that two people (Cole and I) can consume during the week without it going bad and decided it would be a much better idea to share the bounty at work.

Anyways, I guess people enjoyed the homemade goodies, because I soon found that people were seeking me out in the office to ask me if, (and what) delicious treats I would be bringing into our little staff room each week and I couldn’t just stop bringing stuff in when they were asking me so nicely! So I started bringing different baked goods in every Friday morning (just because I thought this would make our Fridays even better than they already are.) Thus, the tradition of Kristie’s Friday baked goods in the office was born.
