Blood Orange Cardamom Cake

Happy 2017 friends! How is everybody doing? I feel like I have been completely MIA lately. You guys keep asking so nicely for recipes and I keep failing to post them. I’m sorry!

I know I’m the worst, but I’m trying to redeem myself here with this one because you guys …this cake. I am at a loss for words because seriously… This. Cake. I’m in love with it.

Ever since blood oranges started showing up in my market I have been telling myself I need to baking something with these colourful beauties & I finally got around to it this past weekend.

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving in a couple of days, & I’m so excited to spend the day cooking and baking delicious food with my mom, while my brothers sneak bites of food and my mom and I pretend not to notice.

It’s going to be our first Thanksgiving at my parents new house & I can’t help but be excited about this being the first of many special Thanksgiving dinners that we will spend there for years to come. My parents bought a new dining table, that is large enough for everybody to sit comfortably around  – which is something of a change for our large family.

As I get older, I cherish more and more the times that the whole family can come together to enjoy a meal together & catch up on some much needed family time. So I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year.

Happy Friday peeps!

I feel like I have been so MIA lately, so I have to apologize to you all. It seems like my recipe posts have been so few and far between over the past couple of months, and I really have no good excuse except to say that it has been a busy summer.

Not to mention I have been guilty one too many times of digging into all my summer baked goods before I get the chance to snap some good pictures to share with you guys……. I honestly can’t tell you how many times that’s happened this summer. Let us not speak of it & let me try to make up my lack of recipes with this pan of deliciousness instead 😀

Sweet Lemon Curd Cake

IMG_3275

Why hello lovelies!

I’ve got a quickie little recipe share for you here today, because this one was just so darn yummy that I couldn’t wait any longer to share it with you <3

First of all – please forgive me for the lack of photos on this one, but I was barely able to snap these two before the cake was confiscated from it’s photo shoot, only to be gobbled up in the blink of an eye by a couple of hooligans – namely Cole, who loves anything lemon related and my mother who is nothing short of a lemon addict.

So once again – I’m sorry for the lack of cake pictures for you to gawk at. I know we all eat with our eyes and these pictures are definitely not the greatest, so you will just have to take my word for it when I say that this cake is amazing.

Now let’s get right down to business shall we? This Sweet Lemon Curd Cake is quite literally “the bomb.” So even though my mom ate this cake up before I could even take any pictures, I have to admit that she was the inspiration behind this cake, so I owe the credit of how well it turned out to her.

Fresh Peach Cupcakes

Picture

Morning lovelies!

First things first, I must apologize for the delay in between posts – gah! I have no real excuse except to say that it has been a crazy busy few weeks – but really, who isn’t busy right? I told you – I have no good excuses…. I fell behind – it was stupid… please forgive me 🙂

So last weekend I bought some local peaches from the Haney Farmers Market and they have got to be the best peaches I have ever had in my life. They were all so, so juicy, and just ripe with peachy deliciousness. When I cut into the first one and had a taste,  just to make sure they were good ;p} It was so dang delish I just wanted to eat the entire box.

Unfortunately I had plans for these peaches and I couldn’t just up and eat them until I was sure I had enough for leftover snacking. Sadly- I had no such luck and I ended up using all of the peaches I bought to fulfill a cupcake order. So basically the number one plan for this Saturday is to make a B-line for the farmers market fruit booth so that I can buy up as much as possible, chop em’ up and freeze them to use throughout the year when we are devoid of fresh peaches.

So I have a sweet and simple post for you all today with these Peach Cupcakes that I made for a custom order on the weekend that I really wanted to share with you before peach season bids us adieu – speaking of which, can you believe it’s almost the end of summer…. ? It’s crazy, I can’t believe we are almost in September!

So with no more explanation as to why these cupcakes happened, {because really, who needs reason when you have cupcakes} here is the recipe – I hope you enjoy.

Morning peeps!

Guess what? It’s Thursday and that can only mean one thing…. it means that tomorrow is Friday and I think that deserves a hell yeah! Can I get a woop woop?!

Clearly I am a little (a lot) excited for the weekend, which isn’t exactly a new experience – I am always excited for the weekend. But this weekend I am extra excited  – mostly because this Saturday we are headed out to Delta to check out the the Deja Vu Vintage Market, which in other words is basically my heaven. I love vintage markets and will definitely be looking to Cole for restraint so as to not let me purchase literally everything I come across that is vintage & kitchen related.

Not to mention after the vintage market we will be heading for Vancouver to have a little browse around the West Elm stores & Pottery Barn… So basically we are just doing a shopping day for ALL THE THINGS that are house & home furniture related. My favourite kind of Saturday 😀 What kind of fun things are you getting up to this weekend?

Fresh Strawberry Crumb Coffee Cake

Around our house, Friday nights always call for a little bit of a celebration. Now I know what your thinking… Friday night = Party night, but since Cole and I are just about the only 25 year olds on this planet who would much prefer to have a quiet night in rather than party it up on a Friday night, our Friday night celebrations are a little more on the subdued side, but that doesn’t make them any less special for us.

Our Friday night celebrations usually consist of Cole taking me out for dinner to one of our favourite restaurants such as Big Feast in Maple Ridge – Nom! Other times we catch the latest flick at the movie theatre, (usually he lets me choose :D) But more often than not, Cole and I opt for my favourite option, which is to get cozy and stay in on a Friday night. I know that to some people this may sound incredibly boring, but for Cole and I, it is a chance to really catch up on the events of each others week and make exciting plans for the weekend ahead of us.

Vanilla Layer Cake with Whipped Chocolate Cream Frosting for Dad’s Birthday!

1405022719

Hello all! This will be my first post since the name change to my website! I was very sad to change it but it was pointed out to me that the previous website name was the same as another blog and in the interest of remaining unique and distinguishing my website from others out there, I decided it would be best to change my name. This new name really says everything about what I am blogging about on this website so I think it is a good fit. Let me know what you think, but for now, lets move onto more important things like… CAKE!

It was my Dad’s birthday a couple of weekends ago and naturally we celebrated by doing a traditional home cooked meal at my parents house, complete with this very large and very delicious birthday cake. I love birthday’s for one simple reason and that reason is the CAKE! As one of my favourite people of all time, Julia Child, would say “A party without a cake is just a meeting.” Seriously, how could you not love that woman when she coins phrases like this one?
