I strongly believe that life is just better with chocolate cake…
Even if you are having on of those hellish days that doesn’t even seem like it could be real; I firmly believe that a good chocolate cake has the power to turn even the worst of days around. Because at the end of the day, there really is nothing like slicing into a moist chocolate cake en-robed in silky, fudgey frosting.
I can’t believe Fall is just about upon us. As always this Summer absolutely flew by, but I have to admit after the dry, scorching weather we had I am more than ready to welcome in the new season. I know a lot of Vancouverites wish the summer would never end, but admittedly once September rolls around I am usually pining for the beauty of Fall.
My Dad doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth. I got my obsession for baked goodies from my mum and my mum only.
As such he rarely requests baking – in fact he rarely even eats dessert at all. So when he does I get a little giddy and waste no time jumping at the opportunity to bake him a little something delicious.
Such was the case the other day when I got a text from him saying, and I quote… “I think I could go for a slice of Carrot Cake topped with an inch thick of Cream Cheese Frosting right about now…” My Dad may not share my love for baked goodies, but if there is one thing we can agree on, it’s that cream cheese frosting is pretty much the best thing in the whole entire world.
So if you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I fully ate three quarters of this cake all to myself. I went back for “just one more bite” about thirty times until the cake was just about gone, because I simply couldn’t help myself…
Do I have regrets about demolishing a cake in the span of a half hour that could easily have feed ten people? No, because that’s how good this cake is. It was absolutely worth every bite, and the subsequent trip to the gym the next morning for a gnarly work out sesh.
Who else here could find themselves completely content to stare at a pretty layer cake all day long?
When I got together with my lovely friend Rosemary from Local Studio Co a few weeks ago to shoot this pretty white layer cake, I swear I wanted to do just that. Stare at it all day long that is…
Seriously though. I swear once we were done shooting it, I sat and admired it for a solid thirty minutes. I was so obsessed with it that when my fiance asked me when he could have a slice, I almost uttered the words “Pardon me? this cake is of course too pretty to eat!” … But then I remembered that the cake was also delicious, and let’s be real, there is nothing that will ever stop me from eating a piece of homemade cake. Nothing. Not even if it is pretty. Read More
Is it just me or is there just something so hypnotizing about roll cakes? Whenever I make one, I find myself leering at it like a total weirdo… does anybody else have this problem? There is really something about these cakes that just makes you want a slice – no matter what time of day. Roll cake for breakfast? Heck yes!
You guys… I have just four words for you. Chocolate. Chip. Snack. Cake. I honestly don’t know what else to say – other than you need this cake in your life. The flavours are so simple & it’s so easy to make, but it’s probably one of my all-time favourite cakes. Honestly, to say that I love this cake with all my heart, would be an understatement.
