We’re Engaged!

IMG_7255Happy Tuesday lovelies! I hope everybody’s week is off to a good start <3

So just in case you missed out on my Instagram posts… Cole & I are engaged! We’ve actually been engaged since December, and I am just getting around to this post now, so please don’t judge me for being SO. INCREDIBLY. SLOW. I’m the worst – I know it.

Seriously though, I can’t believe it but it has already been a whole month since Cole and I got engaged. I just can’t believe how quickly the time has flown by.

If I’m being completely honest, I was a little nervous to write this post. Basically I have been debating for the last month whether or not you guys would care to read about our engagement story {hence the ridiculously late post}. In the end I decided I would just do it, because at the end of the day I really wanted to share it with you guys. So I hope you enjoy our story… <3

IMG_6527I have to admit that I’m feeling a little bit a lot of pressure to tell the story of how Cole proposed to me just right. It really is kind of very daunting to me. Is that strange? I guess I’m just being a little squirly because I just want to give the story the proper justice. I mean, my wonderful fiance more than deserves it for all of the intricate time and planning he put into the executing such a beautiful proposal that was beyond my wildest dreams.

Okay, so I’m not really sure where to begin…  gah – why is this is so hard for me? Clearly I am the worst “blogger” ever. {I use quotations, because I really don’t consider myself to be a blogger, more like someone who writes online for fun… is that the same thing?} I don’t know – Anyways, moving on…

I guess I will start by telling you that Cole proposed on December 23rd, 2015 which is actually the anniversary of our very first date. Now although December 23rd isn’t technically the anniversary of the day we started dating, it still has always held a great deal of significance in our relationship. So for the past 9 years since we started dating, we have always held a quiet little celebration for this day.

Whether it be going out for dinner, or re-creating our first date by going to the theatre to see a movie, or cuddling up on the couch to just have a good ol’ talk, we have always held a small little celebration to honour our first date together.

Okay – so I know this might seem like a bit of a sappy or juvenile thing to celebrate each year after 9 years of being together, but it has always held a special place in our hearts. So the fact that Cole chose this as the day he would propose, really meant the world to me.

Alrighty, so I’m feeling the need to preface this story a little bit so that you really get the full effect. So bare with me here… or just skip to the exciting parts – whatever you want 😀

So, it has been years since Vancouver had a proper white Christmas. Like, basically the idea of a white Christmas is just an urban legend around here. So this year when our weather men got really hopeful and started predicting snow for the 2015 Christmas – Let’s just say they had me a little {okay maybe a lot} over-excited. However, by December 22, the weather men changed their tunes, and subsequently crushed all of my snowy dreams with a forecast of some classic Vancouver rain instead. {Never trust the weather man …}

I’ll admit that Cole had warned me not to get my hopes up for the snow, but I simply couldn’t help myself. I’m a total sucker for snow. It was all I wanted in my life this Christmas – but it simply wasn’t to be.

So because I was a little down about our lack of snow, Cole presented me with the idea of heading up to Whistler for the next day so that we could enjoy a the snow up there, and therefore fulfill my undying need for a snowy Christmas season.

I was of course ecstatic about the idea, so we wasted no time heading up on the morning of December 23, so that we could spend the whole day in the snowy Whistler winter wonderland. Little did I know {seriously, I had no idea} what Cole had planned for us…

So we started our little day trip off by shopping {and eating} our way through Whistler Village. We kept ourselves warm by sipping on a couple of hot chocolates, while simultaneously stuffing our faces munching on warm meat pies and sausage rolls from Peaked Pies – aka, home of the worlds best meat pies {in our opinion} and one of my favourite places to eat in all of the land.

We were making our way to the Upper Village shops, {stopping frequently so that I could take cornucopias amounts of pictures of the stunning Whistler scenery}, when Cole suggested that we take a bit of a detour off the beaten path and up the rivers edge, to get some really good shots.

I was of course more than happy to accept the invitation to continue frivolously using up allllll of the film space in my camera, so I followed him without protest all the way out to the spot where the river opened up into gorgeous beauty, where I am standing in the picture above.

Now here is where it gets a little bit crazy, and to be completely honest, I still don’t even know how he managed to pull all of this off… he’s a wizard… or a magician… or both.

While I was turned around to take some pictures of this gorgeous spot where the river opened up, Cole pulled out this beautiful bouquet of my favourite roses, {which was somehow hidden completely out of site underneath of a snowy bush no less}, and presented them to me. {Seriously how???}

At this stage I was already choking back tears from the cuteness of the flowers, but still totally unaware of what was happening. I pulled out a note that was embedded in the bouquet I which read “I love you with all my heart Kris”.

He took a step towards me and asked if I knew what day it was. I told him that I did and in that moment I felt like the luckiest girl in the world to have this wonderful boyfriend, who would go to this much trouble just to celebrate our special day.

So my thought process at this moment went something like this…

“Aww, what an adorable boyfriend I have. He’s arranged these flowers to be sweet on the anniversary of our first date. What a sweet, sweet man.”

Yep, I was still completely unaware unsuspecting of what was about to happen. So when he gave me one final kiss before getting down on one knee, and pulling out a little black box, I pretty much thought that I was straight up dreaming.

I’m sure you can guess how the rest of the story goes…  but basically the most wonderfully kind, intelligent, strong and most thoughtful man I have ever known asked me if I would marry him…. and without even an ounce of hesitation, I said “Of course I will!”

It took only moments for us to spring into full blown, giddy, engaged couple excitement mode.

We spent some time alone in our little spot, taking about a hundred selfies with me still crying while simultaneously grinning from ear to ear, and Cole watched me patiently while I did giddy-girly things – like take pictures of my gorgeous flowers, and the engagement ring that he designed for me {which I am completely enamored with}.

So after some time in our newly engaged little bubble, we figured it was time for us to make our way back to civilization. Fineeeee

I stopped to take “just one more picture” of my flowers on this bridge, when a man fully decked out in winter gear, and a massive cannon camera in hand approached us. He shook Cole’s hand, like they were old pals, while I stood there once again blissfully unaware of what the hell was going on.

Yes, just when I thought all of the surprises were done, Cole managed to amaze me once again, by surprising me with an engagement photo shoot session. Definitely not something I had been expecting, even a little bit.

So the snow dressed photographer man asked me very nicely to put my camera away, asked me to take of my giant red touque so he could see my face and gave me two very incredible foot warmers to keep my feet warm in my boots, so that we could spend the next hour taking engagement photos in a winter wonderland.

Confession – At first I felt a little bit extremely awkward and strange having our photos professionally taken. Aside from school portraits, I have never had my photo professionally taken. I am more than a little bit camera shy. I am much more comfortable being the one behind the camera as opposed to being in front of it.

Despite my awkwardness in the beginning, the photographer did a wonderful job of making us feel comfortable during the shoot. I have to admit that I am so in love with the moments that he captured of us, which is pretty incredible, considering I usually end up disliking pretty much every photo of myself. So kudos to our photographer Matt Murray for doing such a beautiful job.

So after a couple of hours taking pictures in the snow, we had gotten little bit more than chilly, but were still wayyy too excited to care. So we checked ourselves into our hotel room and proceeded up to cozy up by the fire in our fluffy hotel robes, while our clothes got nice and toasty on the heater.

Once we were nice and warmed up, we made our way out to enjoy our the rest of our evening, by going out to dinner and take in the beautiful lights of Whistler Village. Whistler truly is a winter wonderland around Christmas time, so if you ever get the chance to go, you need to go. End of story.

I fell asleep that night in a state of pure joy and contentedness and, {CLICHE ALERT}, truly feeling like the luckiest girl on earth.

In all seriousness – that is exactly how I felt. I mean honestly, I would never have been able to plan such a romantic, and thoughtful engagement as Cole did. I still don’t know how in the hell he managed to get the roses out to that deserted spot, especially when everything was covered in about 3 feet of snow… {Seriously – he is a wizard}

Just when I think I have him all figured out, Cole never seizes to amaze me with his beautiful heart. All my life, I have always been the girl who couldn’t help but second guess herself in pretty much every aspect of my life. I am constantly asking myself if I am making the right choice, forever second guessing my decisions, and I am probably the most irritatingly indecisive human being you will ever meet.

However, when Cole asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him, I have never been more sure about my answer to anything in my entire life. Cole is truly my rock and the light in my life. Even in a world that is filled with uncertainty, when I am in his arms I know that I am safe and that I am home.

We have vowed to really enjoy the time we have as an engaged couple. For us this means we don’t want to rush into planning a wedding, just for the sake of planning a wedding. We want to take our time, so that we can not only really take each others thoughts and opinions into account to make sure our wedding day is just as it should be, but also so that we can really savour the moments that come with being engaged.

We are so enjoying the engagement ride so far, and are so looking forward to the road ahead and the day that we say “I do.” But until then, we will keep you posted – If you want me to that is 😉

Thanks for popping by today, lovelies – I hope you enjoyed our little story.

KP xoxo
