It’s hard for me to pick a favourite dessert. As you can probably guess, I have a might strong sweet tooth, and as such I love all desserts, for all kinds of different reasons. But Apple Crisp definitely holds a special place in my heart.
Apple Crisp was a staple in our home growing up; one of those recipes my mum and I loved to bake together. One of us would be peeling apples, while the other prepared the buttery crumble topping. It took minutes to prepare, and I remember as soon as that baby hit the oven the kitchen would warm instantly with the smell of apples, cinnamon and brown sugar baking to golden perfection.
That’s the thing – Apple Crisp is such a simple, yet unbelievably satisfying dessert. If you’re new to baking and want something simple to get your feet wet, this is a great place to start. It’s so easy to prepare, it’s a wonder I don’t make one for myself every night of the week. Just serve it to me warm from the oven, topped with a scoop of melty vanilla ice cream and I will be a happy camper – no bowls necessary. I’ll probably polish off the whole dish… seriously though… dare me to do it. I’ll do it.
One of the other reasons I love baking Apple Crisps so much is because they are super fun to play around with seasonal additions. In the summer I will add fresh berries and in the fall / winter I lovveee adding fresh cranberries. The combination of the tart cranberries with the sweet apples is pure heaven for me.
