Cinnamon Sugar Coating
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp butter, melted
Glaze
1 cup Powdered sugar
3-4 tbsp Milk
½ tsp vanilla
Pinch of nutmeg
A few drops of red or green food colouring
HOW TO MAKE
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and spray two donut pans with PAM Baking Spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt and granulated sugar.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients & set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, vanilla, and eggs until well combined. Slowly whisk in melted butter until combined.
Pour into the well of the dry ingredients and gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry until the dough has just come together – it is okay if there are still a few floury streaks.
Scoop batter into a piping bag and cut about a 1 inch opening off of your piping bag.Pipe the batter into the donut pans filling about 1/2 of the way full. If you don’t have a piping bag you could just spoon the batter into the pan.
Place your donuts in the oven to bake for about 9-10 minutes or until the edges are a light golden brown.
Remove from the oven and set on a wire rack to cool for a few minutes before turning them out on the wire rack. Once your donuts are cool, decorate them as desired.
Decorating Notes:
** If you are dunking your donuts in cinnamon sugar, dunk them warm from the oven so that the sugar sticks to them.
**If you are glazing your donuts or dunking them in powdered sugar, allow them to cool completely before glazing so that the glaze doesn’t melt off.
For Cinnamon Sugar:
Whisk together the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Toss warm donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Set aside and repeat this process with the remaining donuts.
For Glaze & Sprink;es
In a bowl, whisk together milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and nutmeg until smooth. Add 1-2 drops of food colouring to start, and add more until desired colour saturation is reached.
*If your glaze is too runny, add 1-2 tbsp more powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached. It should be thick, but pourable.
Dunk donuts into glaze and set on a wire rack. Top with sprinkles when the glaze is fresh so that they stick.
Enjoy!
