Holy smokes it’s December guys… can you believe it!? I swear just yesterday it was October and now here we are approaching mid-December, and it feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been around these parts to share a recipe with you lovely people.
Of course it most likely feels like “forever”, because it has been a long time since I shared a recipe with you guys. It’s been one of those months where I just bake everything on a whim, without writing anything down, all the while thinking to myself “yes of course I will remember this recipe…” And then being sadly disappointed when my memory fails me two weeks later. Note to self: MUST WRITE ALL RECIPES DOWN AS I MAKE THEM.
My Dad doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth. I got my obsession for baked goodies from my mum and my mum only.
As such he rarely requests baking – in fact he rarely even eats dessert at all. So when he does I get a little giddy and waste no time jumping at the opportunity to bake him a little something delicious.
Such was the case the other day when I got a text from him saying, and I quote… “I think I could go for a slice of Carrot Cake topped with an inch thick of Cream Cheese Frosting right about now…” My Dad may not share my love for baked goodies, but if there is one thing we can agree on, it’s that cream cheese frosting is pretty much the best thing in the whole entire world.
There are so many things I love about Summer; sunshine; blue skies; beach days; warm breezes; picnics; campfires; s’mores… the list goes on and on. But if I had to choose my favourite thing about Summer, I would have to say that fresh local berries and stone fruits steal my heart every time.
Last weekend Cole and I went berry picking and came home with buckets of ripe strawberries, sweet raspberries and juicy blueberries. I am up to my ears in fresh local berries right now and absolutely loving every minute of it.
Fun fact about me; One of my all-time favourite breakfasts is a warm toasted bagel, that has been buttered and smeared with a good dollop of tangy cream cheese. It might sound like the simplest breakfast ever, but there is just something about a good bagel with cream cheese that I can never seem to get enough of. But does a girl ever really need a good reason for why she loves bread or cheese? I think not.
Now while homemade bagels have become something of a regular occurrence around my house, I have to admit that the first time I made bagels I was completely freaked out. The very idea itself was so foreign and daunting to me, that I actually avoided trying it for years.
When I finally got up the courage to try, I had no idea what I was doing, and I thought I was in for a technical battle royal, that would almost definitely end in failure. However, once I actually started making the bagels I realized that not only are they really easy to make, but they are also be so much fun!

I can’t tell you all how much I love having you request recipes when I post photos to instagram & I really want to do my best to post them quickly for you, but sometimes I really just don’t know where the time goes. But it was a rainy Vancouver day today, so we had a nice cozy day at home, giving Cole & I some much needed time to catch up on some things we have been putting off.
I’m just going to take a moment here and say that if you don’t like pumpkin spice – you are probably not going to like me anymore, because it’s about to get reallllly pumpkin spicy on the blog over the next few weeks.
I’m just going to come right out and say it…. I’m a pumpkin spice addict. Seriously, all jokes aside I am actually addicted – Like when Starbucks brings the pumpkin spice latte back every September I can’t even begin to explain to you how much happiness brews in my soul… all because of a latte with some pumpkin spice. I’m not ashamed of it. 😀
And to tell you the truth, I will pretty much stop at nothing to put a pumpkin spice twist on all the baked goodies I can think of. Case in point; These Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns…. yep. This definitely happened, and it was a joyous occasion. And as if the Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns weren’t enough on their own… I topped em’ off with Maple Brown Butter Cream Cheese Frosting – which is nothing short of a mouthful, but also nothing short of just downright amazing.
