Isn’t it amazing how just a couple nights away can re-center you? How simply getting away somewhere secluded and quiet can remind you about what’s really important in life? How it can make you stop and think twice before sweating the small stuff.
None of us knew what to expect when we arrived on Galiano Island, but I think we all left a little bit in love with that island…
When our ferry landed one of my favourite things about the island right off the bat was how spotty the cell service was. Why? Well because it meant we would be much more likely to be free from the distractions of our phones. Which, meant that we would all be so much more present to fully enjoy each others company and our time there.
Sounds like such a simple pleasure – to be free from cell phones – but it’s one I find to be increasingly rare these days. So I was grateful for the opportunity to share even more special moments with friends.
We checked into our cabin at Bodega Cove and were immediately blown away by the setting; blown away by the beauty surrounding us on all sides; blown away by the peace and quiet.
For me there are few sounds in the world more relaxing than the ones that greeted us upon our arrival at the cabins. The faint sound of crickets chirping in the tall grass; wind quietly whispering through the tall trees behind the cabins; a faint sound of the ocean waves just across the street…
I’m not sure it gets much better than that.
Not to mention, the cabins were absolutely stunning inside and out.
Greeted by sunshine beaming on a gorgeous private deck, we made our way inside the cabin, and found ourselves in awe.
For me, stepping into that cabin felt like home. It felt warm, and cozy. It felt familiar. It was our first time staying there, but it felt like we had been coming there for years.
Needless to say it was easy for us to make ourselves at home.
After taking a moment to make ourselves comfortable and appreciate the evening sunlight shining in on us through the floor to ceiling windows, we decided the only thing missing now was some good food.
One of the things I loved most about the cabin was our kitchen. It was honestly my dream kitchen; small, but functional; modest, yet beautiful.
I couldn’t wait to get in there and bake something delicious.
It might sound a little odd to some, but I actually love to cook on vacation – It’s one of my favourite things to do. The kitchen at Bodega Cove was fully equipped and ready for anything.
If ever there is an oven in the place that I am staying, you best believe I’m going to use it…
Soooo, homemade pizza? Yes.
I know, I know – Homemade pizza in a cabin might sound a little daunting… but to make a simple Margarita pizza you really only need a few simple ingredients.
And okay, maybe a little willingness to get a tad bit extra… Good thing my best buddy Rosemary was my partner in crime this weekend, and she’s always up for the extra. This is why I love you.
How to pizza in a cabin…
Pick up (or better yet, pack along) some fresh pizza dough (homemade or store bought) olive oil, tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and bam… you have homemade pizza baby.
Homemade pizza, wine, sunshine, a patio and good company…
I mean honestly, does it get any better than that ?
Well maybe, as long as there are games to be played …
Can we just talk about how they had cornhole at Bodega Cove?
Enough said.
I really cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place. If you are ever in the market for a place to stay on Galiano Island – do yourself a favour and book one of the cabins at Bodega Cove.
Just in case we weren’t already the happiest campers in the world – the stars came out to play that night, and it was nothing short of spectacular. I could have stared up at that sky all night long…
But Jeremy and I had big plans to hike for some epic sunrise views the next morning…
So we did just that. Up at 5:00am while on vacation? Always. #worthit.
The views from Mt. Galiano were absolutely breathtaking, and the hike to get up to them was just as beautiful.
After our hike, the only logical thing to do was return back to our cabin and make pancakes…
Rosie foraged fresh blackberries while Evan whisked pancake batter…
I’ll say it again… I’m not sure it gets much better than this.
Before we headed off to the ferry we made one last stop at Retreat Cove to take a peak at the beautiful caves there.
We ate most of our meals in the Cabin, but we did pop our heads into a couple local gems for morning coffees and afternoon bevies.
Bowline cafe was a great cup of coffee, and had some serious vibes inside. Also they have ice cream sandwiches guys… so I don’t think I have to tell you that it’s legit. I trust that you know.
And then there was Crane and Robin…
We stopped there for a few afternoon margaritas and some serious sunny patio vibes. Needless to say, it was a beautiful spot.
Grab yourself a seat on the patio, order up a few drinks and a plate of tacos. Live your best life. We sure did…
Galiano Island, we loved you & we will be back.
